Rock Master comes to Cape Town!
After attending 3 Rock Master competitions in Arco, Tony Lourens had a dream of bringing a similar competition to the city of Cape Town. After a meeting with Angelo Seneci, the President of Rock Master, Italy, he secured the name Rock Master for the Cape Town competition. Although starting in an indoor venue with South African climbers only, the vision is to have a fully international invitational competition held annually on a grand scale at a suitably spectacular venue.
Mountain Extreme Events now brings you the first ever Rock Master lead climbing competition to be held in Cape Town, South Africa. This is the first time that a Rock Master event has ever happened outside of Arco Italy, the home of this iconic event.
The event centres around exhibition climbing, where the top performing climbers are invited to compete for the coveted title and so become one of the elite few who call themselves Rock Master. As this is the first event we have chosen to use the Rock and Road Trip finalist as the short list for competitors to invite, with 10 places allocated for men and 10 places for women.
This year’s event is also one of the two official national team selection events, where points scored will rank you for selection to go to the 2011 World Champs in Arco, Italy in July to represent South Africa.
The 2010 Rock Master South Africa will be held on Wednesday the 8th Dec from 5:00pm at the City Rock Climbing Gym in Observatory, Cape Town. The same evening will play host to the climbing party of the year to sign off the 2010 year of climbing, and the inaugural Rock Master South Africa Competition.
