The ice season is coming to an end as the temperatures rise and the ice is melting fast.
However in the southern Berg, the gullies are still think with snow and will remain this way for at least another 2 -3 weeks. These would include Mashai South Face Route, Mlambonja South gully and the Devil’s Knuckles passes. They are well worth doing and give a good alpine day out, without having to fly to Europe ! Mashai Pass at present is also a worthwhile snow walk needing crampons and an ice axe.
The pictures show Mlambonja south gully on Tuesday the 23rd.
