Same spot as last time then. Again, a fine day, packed with people. This post makes no mention of the time it took place though.
Thanks again to TMNP for doing nothing to make our mountain safe. This walk is hardly obscure, nor is it long. This part of the hill is easily patrolled too. We’ll need to wait for someone to be raped or killed before TMNP actually physically does something, and even then, it’s unlikely.

“lies” same as your previous comments, I understand the frustration but I think the attack on TMNP here is unfounded. I go up lion’s head with my wife several times each week and I can say with much conviction that the presence of both police and rangers on lions head is very visible and certainly not lacking. The problem and really the key concern here is that these attacks happen regardless of this even though they know police/rangers are 3-4 minutes away. It seems logical that they will not attack when the ranger is at that exact same spot, and 9/10 times there is a ranger at the launch site, which mean they will just attack somewhere else.
I agree the concerned shown by TMNP in the past was not enough, but if we want things to get better we need to make valid complaints and not just general statements indictive of someone that sits back and moans instead if joining the efforts to make a difference.
These attacks are deeply concerning and affects me directly because I find myself there with my family all the time. One would hope that people this brazen will soon my a mistake that will get them caught

myself and mcninja had a quick run-hike up there last night. there was a police van parked at the 1st paraglider ramp even thought there was less than 20 people on LsH. we were disappointed that the policeman was there because we were hoping to run into the muggers. maybe we’ll be lucky next time ;) on the way down at last light we passed a girl hiking up there on her ownsome in the drizzle. hope she had an uzi concealed in her raincoat………

Guys, for your sakes I hope you don’t run into the muggers. You might not be so tough against two tik-high thugs with knives.
The sad reality is that unless they have cops stationed every 200 meters on that hill it’s just going to continue.
The only way forward that I can see is if the DA were perhaps to pass a new section of law that enables these kinds of crime to be labelled as terrorism (or an equal harsh crime). This would allow the justice system to slap a huge sentence. It’s only when the penalty for crime outweighs the value of it, that it will cease.
Alternatively, as said above, hike in large groups, and try to make sure at least one person is armed. Preferably with lead and not pepper.

Good news, I hear that yesterday two suspects were caught. Identity parade to follow…
Hopefully Inspector Baker (who is a large chap) gave them a solid PK before putting them in the mellow yellow!
