Boven Roc Rally 2012 registrations are open!! – Scroll down for more details and registration.
This is a yearly rock climbing endurance event that involves a team of two, racing between the cliff faces around Wonderland, Waterval Boven and doing as many climbs as you can in 8 hours on the first day, then climbing one route on day 2 pushing as hard as you can on the grade scale of difficulty.
Although the competition is tough and some take it very seriously, there is a serious festival component and the all round vibe is seriously chilled out and social. Most competitors wear costumes for the fancy dress awards which makes for a guaranteed laugh-a-minute, every minute!
As in a golf match, every climber gets given a handicap based upon his or her climbing performance over the last year and other personal best performances (see rules for more info).
Basically to win this competition, you will have to climb a lot (against your handicap) on the first day and then climb hard on the second day. A logical and fair but complicated system will be explained before the start of the competition. Read the rules carefully!
For the top climbers there is a special difficulty section where climbers focus on climbing at the absolute limit of their abilities. Only the most difficult 3 routes over 2 days count towards scoring and no handicap system is in place here.

Remember students and MCSA members get a generous discount.
PS: If you have to buy this shirt shirt in a fashion boutique, you’ll pay at least R300…
Hi, do we have to book camping spaces at Tranquilitas seperately?
Yes. Actually no. It will be first come first serve for camping up there. Some tents are already up!
Hello there, I am arriving from Brazil and I have just registered because some friends invited me to join them! Would it be possible for me to pay upon arrival? As I leave tomorrow and have no idea of how to send the payment through the information provided. Thanks so much, and please let me know if you accept pay pal or any other form of payment! Best regards!
Hey Mateus,
No problem. You can pay when you get here. For further info mail me on climb@rocrope.com
If you compete in the handicap comp, is it acceptable for team member A to leave the quickdraws in for member B if both are doing the route for points?
Yes you may:
Redpoint = Redpoint
Pre-placed Flash = Flash
Pre-placed Onsight = Onsight
I think…
Hehe. How is a pre-placed onsight = onsight? Did the belayer look away while the first person was climbing? I think I’m just pissy cause I couldn’t go
You missed out. Belayer can look away…always frowned upon if scorecard comes back with both climbers onsighting!
If other climbers are working the route and draws are in, is it still an OS? Tricky…
If the crux is chalked & ticked revealing the beta? Like where is the best place to dyno for on the jug – wish it was
As long as we don’t get too serious about it, enough rules in this world already now!
