Quality European Footwear brands arriving in South Africa

The Ram Mountaineering team is pleased to announce that we have launched a new company to bring some quality European mountain footwear brands to South Africa.  Traverse Outdoor Gear (TOG) is a separately financed company that will run from the Ram Mountaineering premises and will offer product from Boreal and Zamberlan covering all forms of footwear from High Altitude, through Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Backpacking, light hiking and speed hiking to travel & leisure.

Our intention is to place opening orders by the end of August to ensure delivery of stock to retailers in October.

Boreal is Spain’s biggest name in mountain footwear. The brand has been present in the South African market off and on since the early 1990’s when their classic Fire rock boots were every rock climber’s “must have” purchase. Boreal has an international reputation for building some of the best high performance mountaineering footwear on the planet. TOG will be focusing on a range starting at boots suitable for 8000m peaks, through rock climbing and into quality back packing boots.

Zamberlan is an Italian brand with a prestigious history beginning in 1929. The company celebrated it’s 80^th anniversary in 2009 and has distribution in more than 40 countries around the globe. As with many similar companies from that region in Italy, Zamberlan footwear is characterised by exceptional quality, Italian panache and flare and market leading innovation. Due to the fact that this brand is new to South Africa, TOG will introduce a range which is focused on the more “main stream” portion of the outdoor market; beginning with quality backpacking boots and extending down through to leisure and travel footwear. In addition, we will launch their range of “Speed hiking” shoes which represents a new category for this market.

Samples of the new ranges were shown to retailers at Ram Mountaineering’s show over the last two weeks and will now be circulated with our reps to other parts of the country for other retailers to see. Apart from offering additional choice to the discerning South African footwear customer, the most important feature of TOG’s offering is the fact that we will be offering stock of all styles ex. stock from our Cape Town warehouse.
