Funding available for sport climbing development

Firstly, we are AWARDING funds not asking for it!  The Boven Sport Fund is to support Sport Climbing development by young South Africans in southern Africa.

Funds might be for developing a new crag or similar sport mission, single pitch or multi pitch epic, including money for transport, provision of bolts etc; so long as the team is competent and the climbing of quality (and of course not at a trad venue).
The money was raised from the placement of adverts in the online Boven guide and by the donation of some cash from Mountain Mail Order (Big Up!!).  The new route put up recently in Madagascar was a great example of the sort of thing we’d fund (should have funded!) though home soil is fine too.  At the moment there is R7600 in the fund including some bolting hardware (allocated to Boven anchor replacement).

So if you are keen to do something that is positive for SA sport climbing and need some help towards it, apply.  Contact me through the Climb ZA website (Andrew P) messaging service.  You must be able to name the climb in the photo below, a perfect example of first class sport climbing development in SA ( ; Finally, if you are a supplier and want to support the Fund, place some adverts in the Boven guidebook (it gets 1000’s of views), contact me for details.
