Lactic acid isn’t your muscles’ foe. It can actually keep you happy, fit, and motivated, according to a study published.

Lactic acid has a bad reputation. Many people blame it for fatigue, sore muscles, and cramps. They think of it as a waste product that should be avoided at all cost. Guess what? Scientists have discovered that lactic acid plays a critical role in generating energy during exercise. Far from being the bad boy of metabolism, lactic acid provides fuels for many tissues, helps use dietary carbohydrates, and serves as fuel for liver production of glucose and glycogen. In fact, lactic acid is nature’s way of helping you survive stressful situations.

    True, lactate or lactic acid in as intermediate in metabolism and can be used to produce more energy. Its actually quite important for a number of metabolic processes. It is produced when you burn muscle carbohydrate stores (glycogen) in an oxygen independent manner. i.e. during high intensity muscle contraction. The problem is that this process also produces hydrogen ions which increase the acidity in your muscles. Its probably this that causes your fore arms to “burn” when you are pumped not lactate.
