Vintage Footage of First International Sport Climbing Competition in 1988

Vintage footage of Spiderman Dan Goodwin as the color commentator at the First International Sport Climbing Competition at Snowbird, Utah where Dan takes a huge 45′ whipper to illustrate the challenges the competitors will face. The idea for the competition started at a Outdoor Convention in Las Vegas with Jeff Lowe.  There, they came up with plan for a duel speed climbing course and a massive overhanging wall and the name…The First International Sport Climbing Competition. All they needed was a place to host it, and that’s when Dick Bass came into the picture. He owned the Snowbird Ski Resort.

My records show the Arco Rock Masters started a year earlier in 1987 and was an international event with Lynn Hill taking woman gold. Not sure if these Americans knew this.
