Best Rocklands Bouldering Guide – Climbs Under 7A – Ep1

A rock climbing video guide to bouldering in the stunning and unique destination of Rocklands, South Africa.  A video documentary of  a group of British, American and Candian climbers as they get to know the area over the course of a month.  ‘As someone who generally doesn’t boulder much harder than 7A, I was a tad concerned that Rocklands wouldn’t have much for me to climb – I was wrong.
Most of my favorite Rocklands problems were stellar 6b or 6c lines, so this episode is a showcase of some of our favorite problems around that grade, with added information on where to stay and eat and ideas of what to do on a rest day in Capetown.’

How much of this can we possibly further endure? Every knobhob climbing in Rocklands for the first time, seems compelled by some force beyond their control to make a video about “The Rocklands Classics” which then gets palmed off this website, that seemingly also cant get enough of it. This actually also seems to apply to some local climbers , who simply cannot resist the urge to film themselves climbing the “classics”.

every now and then i do open one of these clips but usually cant through the first 30 seconds. This shit is old, tired and truly uninspiring. Please Justin, make it stop!!

I looked because I was interested to see if the long journey from Gauteng would be worth it for you average intermediate climber – I am encouraged to visit. Thanks

Jordan, my response to you is – so what.
Just because someone makes, or wants to make, a video doesn’t mean you have to watch it. Perhaps they are ‘compelled’ by the stunning rock and atmosphere. There’s no need to be so negative. People are having fun. Try do the same.
Also many foreign climbers probably feel like Rocklands is still largely an unknown for their fellow European climbers and so feel the need to let folks know just how amazing it is.

I seriously doubt whether Rocklands is still unknown to any boulderer who’s been around for longer than 5 years.

if your response to that is “so what” then that’s probably your response to most things in life… so no point in further discussions.

No my response is my entire previous response. And perhaps lighten up a bit Mr Grumpy.

@Jordan: Nobody is forcing you to “endure” anything. If you don’t want to watch yet another video of Rocklands classics, then just don’t click the link. It’s not like they’re misleadingly titled or anything. So stop whining.

Personally, I love these kinds of videos and find them very inspiring despite the fact that I’ve seen (and indeed climbed) these boulders many times before.

@Jordon comment: Had a good chuckle 🙂 Similarly, Porn ‘classics’ don’t seem to get ‘old’ – controversial or not. Why should climbing be any different? I enjoying seeing what classics I must still climb…

Why everyone gets their panties in a twist the moment someone questions the norm and mundane, i seriously dont understand. Dont get me wrong, there is some very cool content to be found on this site on a regular basis, but there is also a lot crap floating around… like clips of the Rocklands Classics.

There is nothing cool or inspiring about it and deserves a flame… it happens on many adventure sport forums across the world. So, if geeky crap get’s the torch, rather take note and have a second look at your “awesome” video…. then try not to be a herd animal.

Basically what im trying to get to is that 90% of the climbers on this forum are a bunch of head nodding pansies.

And no, this is not trolling…. the people on this forum are in general a waste of time to the sport of rock climbing.

Perhaps this will provide some insight:

Then leave the forum Jordan. As with watching this video, nobody is forcing it upon you and you seemingly are not bothered to contribute so I would venture so say nobody would care if you left anyway.
It’s not just about which climbs are shown anyway, it’s about someone putting in the hard freaking work to create a video of stuff THEY found fun to climb as well and then wanting to share it. So bye, perhaps see you outside sometime 😉

Probably not Cuan. i wont be in Rocklands with you climbing the classics. one has to evolve you know… move further, move on.

    • Cuan May 21, 2014 at 5:29 pm #

That’s a pity. Although I don’t recall mentioning only going there to climb the “classics”. Rather presumptuous is your conclusion.

I don’t hate those videos as much as people complaining about them.
