KZN CLIMBING is a non for profit organisation and is recognised by the KWAZULU Natal Sports Federation – its main priority being the oversight and promotion of competitive climbing in KZN with a secondary objective of promoting outdoor pursuits on rock, with correct mentoring.
First and foremost it is a sport promoted at Senior Primary and High school level and thus is regarded as a sport at the schools its practiced in.
Currently there are two disciplines practiced, those being Bouldering and Sport Lead – each discipline having qualifying legs culminating in a Provincial Final.
On the 17th August the KZN Sport Climbing Lead Finals was held at the UKZN Sports Centre with ages of u13 to u17 girls/boys competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.
The decision to promote helmet use was in the same vein that helmets are compulsory in Mountain Bike events and that the current climbing helmets can look cool not dorky.
Climbing is a dangerous sport and when having kids of various levels of skill lead climbing its far better to ensure that all necessary precautions are taken for their safety.
