Alex Bester opens the Hardest trad line in the Magaliesberg

Congratulations to Alex Bester for opening his project in Mhlabatini. Fear and Loathing (29) is the hardest pure gear line in the Magaliesberg and situated on the arete left of The Final Cut (25).  Alex has put quite a bit of time into the project, which culminates in a big dyno above some small, fiddly pieces.

Well done man! Surely the Kloofs have a 30 somewhere waiting to be climbed on gear?

Love how the shoes, harness and helmet all match

Well done Alex! Its an awesome looking line.
And that is one of the best magaliesberg pics I’ve seen. The lighting is always dismal in the kloofs. Well done Michelle – it must have been an effort to create that pic

A landmark ascent that I reckon. Terrifying line, leaning arête and big wet boulders all over the place waiting to catch the climber! Class line and style send, Alex was just quietly busy with it. Then bam, done! And Michelle really got an amazing pic, that one will inspire Magalies trad for decades to come! Makes me want to get out fact wtf I will give it a go Saturday, scared already.

Brilliant. My palms are sweating, my heart rate is up. I remember thinking about that arete while up at The Final Cut back in the 1980s…
