Southern Rock is excited to confirm that the UIAA (International Union of Alpine Associations) will be sponsoring the Origin Mountain Festival. Southern Rock will be hosting UIAA representative, Anne Arran, who will be presenting the UIAA Rock Climbers award.
This will go to the male and female winner of the Difficulty comp who will receive cash prizes of more than R12 000 in total. Anne is a former British climbing champion, international competitor and junior climbing team coach. The goal of the UIAA Rock Climbers’ Award is to recognize internationally the commitment of climbers in the rock climbing community – everywhere. Every year the UIAA will choose the best male and female rock climbers from among athletes participating in different events around the world. The climbers will be chosen by a group of experts based on criteria established by an awards assessment team.
The Difficulty comp runs over Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th. Competitors are given 2 days to send as many routes as they like but only their top 3 routes will count towards their final score. Be strategic. Umgeni rock is tough on the skin. Scoring is based on scoring as outlined on 8a.nu (see table below). Some routes may receive bonus points at the judges discretion.
