MCSA Cape Town Section Rock Climbing Committee July 2015 Newsletter

Rock Sub-Committee (Cape Town Section) Newsletter July 2015

Hi Climbing Community,

Please see the below latest news that the MCSA Rock Climbing Committee is working on and please don’t hesitate to contact us with any suggestions, information or offers to assist us with any of the below items.

Table Mountain National Parks General Activities EMP

GenCom has replied with a combined report back on the Draft, which was available until 6th May for comment from the link www.sanparks.org/conservation/park_man/ where one could register as an interested and affected party and have one’s say about the revision of the TM Management Plan.

A reminder to keep the permit letter on you at all times. The letter can be found here.

ARF and Rebolting

The Rock Climbing Committee is finalizing an updated version of the bolting procedures across the Peninsula and for the Cederberg. New ARF Meets are being organized for this year so keep an eye on the ARF Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/ARFinfo/

  1. Next ARF Meets in 2015:
  • Sideline (The Hole) for 2016
  • Fawlty Towers – finishing up early December 2015
  • Peer’s Cave (November 2015)

We request that all climbers currently in Rocklands have a look out for any dodgy bolts and immediately notify the SubCom.

Bolting of New Routes in Cape Peninsula

Just a friendly reminder that any person wishing to open a new route in SANParks or CapeNature land must apply through the MCSA in order to receive a permit to do so.

It is only MCSA itself and, by extension, ARF that has an existing agreement with SANP and CapeNature via our Sport Climbing Management Plan that we can re-bolt existing routes.  If anyone wishes to have a route re-bolted or apply for a new route that falls on SANParks or CapeNature land, please contact Delaney Carpenter on delaney@rock-chicks.co.za or Rose at the MCSA office on mcsacapetown@iafrica.com.

Please also note that we encourage those who open new routes to please send the topos and information to Justin Lawson at ClimbZA on justin@climbing.co.za to update the Wiki.

MCSA 2016 National Meet

We are looking for volunteers to assist us in hosting the 2016 Annual National Meet. Please contact delaney@rock-chicks.co.za if you would like to be involved.

New Rock SubCom Chairperson

We would like to welcome Cuan Lohrentz to the high seat!

Quite ironic that Delaney is in charge of access issues, yet found it ok to park inside the property at Legoland. MCSA style

      Lovely sarcasm.
