Silvermine East to open

The Silvermine opening coincides with SANParks’ celebrated national parks week where 21 parks will offer free access for day visitors from 14 to 18/19 September.

The following Silvermine trails will be open from Monday 14 September:

  • Bailey’s Kloof
  • Echo Valley
  • Ou Kraal
  • Pecks Valley
  • Spes Bona
  • Steenberg Plateau
  • Trappies Kop

The closure of Silvermine’s trails was a vital measure after the March fire in order to allow the Silvermine flora and fauna a chance to recover naturally without being disturbed by hikers and the general public.

We’ve pleaded with people for their patience to help give nature a chance to do its thing and recover,” said Table Mountain National Park Manager, Paddy Gordon during a special media briefing at the entrance to Silvermine last week. “Hopefully we will show you today that it’s done just that.

For climbers, the following crags (South of Boyes Drive) will re-open – The Silvermine Crags remain closed.

  • Trappieskop
  • Muizenberg Crags
  • The Hole
  • Lakeside Pinnacle
  • The Mine
  • Top side
  • Peer’s Cave
