The second, American Leg of the exchange is taking place from the 1 May 2018.
Our American counterparts will be hosting up to 12 motivated and inspired South African trad climbers starting in Boulder Colorado and the going on to other destinations including Moab. At this stage most of the hosted spots are reserved for trad climbers who contributed to hosting the Americans last year in March 2017. However there is still place for young eager talented climbers.
Criteria for inclusion include the following:
1. You have to already be an MCSA member.
2. You have some trad experience and can comfortably climb at least grade 20/21 on Sport.
3. You need to be able cover the cost of an airline ticket to Denver return and have a valid US visa or passport.
4. Once in the USA you will be hosted and catered for but some spending money for personal items and the odd meal or snacks will be needed. The total budget all inclusive should not exceed R18,000.00
As there is a dearth of female climbers this might well grant you preference.
If there are more than 12 applicants then there is also a plan to have a self-funded parallel travelling group. In that case the additional costs for accommodation,food and transport will be about R600 per day or R7200 for the two weeks making a total budget of about R25,000.00.
