If you (or your loved ones) enjoy being ‘Out There’ in the mountains, please consider supporting those who contribute their time to Search and Rescue.

What we do:

Please consider donating via this crowdfunding link, and support our fundraising push for Mandela Day

The Mountain Club of South Africa has 6 volunteer Search and Rescue Teams across the country, and the Cape Town & Stellenbosch teams contribute their efforts to ‘Wilderness Search and Rescue’ alongside Metro EMS, the Red Cross Air Mercy Service, the SA Airforce, and various other volunteer organizations such as the logistics workgroup (4×4), and other outdoor groups.

The Cape Town team has 74 members, who in 2017 assisted with 130 out of WSAR’s total 185 mountain rescue incidents in the Western Cape, and hosted 32 training events. – Thats a lot of time!

Incidents included cliff rescues for stuck and injured hikers/climbers, searches for missing people, and assisting Metro EMS staff to locate and access injured patients in order for medical care to be given

Please consider supporting us with a few hundred Rand, so we can continue our activities!

Target for Mountain Search and Rescue:

What do we need?  As a volunteer organization, our only income is via donations!

This year we’ve already spent R11,000 on a trailer in order to help us bring equipment speedily to incidents, or to training events.

– We need to spend R17,000 replacing cliff-rescue equipment which keeps our members safe during both training, and real incidents
– We’d like to spend R7,000 on hosting local training events for team members.
– We’d like to spend R5,000 on replacement batteries and radio-units (radios help leaders communicate – something that increases efficiency and also safety).

The funds will be split between these two teams, who are effectively one MCSA team that cover the Cape district.

Total target: R40 000

Its Friday lunchtime and we’ve raised R55,000, from 83 individual donors.

We’ve been really humbled by the phenomenal response – both financially, and to receive the support from so many people has injected a fantastic energy into everyone.

It means the team members can spend their time doing what they do best – rescuing on the mountain, and training safely.

    Thank you everyone.
The campaign will close on Sunday evening.

Ant, Brent, Gela, Mathias, and the members of the MCSA MSAR teams.
