Rockstock 2018: more than just a party

If you’re planning to be in Rocklands this weekend, you’d better pack your dancing shoes: it’s Rockstock. The annual open-air party at De Pakhuys campsite kicks off at 5pm on Saturday, July 28.

Sticking to tradition, the annual Air Guitar championship will take centre stage and delicious food will be ready for those who arrive with an appetite – and then it’s an all-night party.

This year, however, there is a lot more to do on Rockstock day – a community bazaar will open doors at 9am at the dam at Alpha Excelsior Guesthouse and Country Winery. The days events include touch rugby, slacklining, riel dance lessons, a plant workshop, volleyball, dominoes, pool and – of course – food, food, food!

There are also several fringe events for the more serious climber: a dyno competition, a crimp-strength contest, and a hang-time challenge. Qualifiers for these competitions will take place on the Friday prior to Rockstock and the finals will get underway at 5pm in the De Pakhuys campsite. Some great prizes are on offer.

The sponsors list for this year’s event are ClimbZA; Black Diamond; Patagonia via Gone Outdoors Supply Co; CityRock; Mountain Mail Order; Bloc 11; Rooibos Ltd; Cederberg Brewery; De Kelder; Spar Clanwilliam; JLW Physiotherapists; Culture Lab; De Pakhuys; Alpha Excelsior; Traveller’s Rest; The Storytellers Fynbos Apothecary; Bushman’s Cave; and which is sponsoring a week’s free premium membership with every ticket sold.
