Guts and sweat in the beginning and glory and accomplishments in the end! This was the theme of the weekend at CityROCK Johannesburg who hosted the 2018 SA Climbing Nationals.
It was also a weekend of firsts – it was the first time a SA Nationals had included speed and it was the first time, Speed Lead and Bouldering were judged with a combined score. As climbing steps onto the international stage at the youth Olympics this year, SANCF have embraced the new direction climbing has taken by opening up the speed category at a National level resulting in the most competitors ever seen at a SA Climbing Nationals!
Spectators were treated to great showcase with the route setting team headed by Kent Jennings, setting some world class completion routes and boulder problems.
Coming out on top overall was Dylan Vogt and Angela Eckhardt as the combined winners. For full results, keep an eye on the SANCF Facebook Page.
Congratulations to Gauteng Climbing, the host province, and SANCF for an international standard climbing competition that will hopefully see a great South African ranking at the upcoming Youth World Championship in Moscow.
