REEL ROCK 14 – 1 November

The REEL ROCK Film Tour, one of climbing’s greatest celebrations, returns to CityROCK on the 1st of November 2019 at 6:30 for 7pm, with a new collection of world premiere films.
In “The High Road,” the powerful and bold Nina Williams tests herself on some of the highest, most difficult boulder problems ever climbed.
In “United States of Joe’s” climbers collide with a conservative coal mining community in rural Utah — to surprising results.
And in “The Nose Speed Record,” legends Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold battle Yosemite dirtbags Jim Reynolds and Brad Gobright in a high stakes race for greatness. And more!

Tickets are available for R60 (members) and R70 (non-members) at CityROCK front desk.

I got to watch a sneak preview of the Reel Rock 14 last night – it is awesome!! Be sure not to miss out on this excellent show.
Best bouldering videos I’ve seen for sure 🙂

A little bit more about Reel Rock 14:

I commented to Nic before the show “I sure hope there aren’t too many bouldering videos (I enjoy bouldering, but the videos… not so much).
Nic grinned and told me that two of three films are about bouldering!

And so I sat down and started to eat my hat 🙂
The first film is “The High Road,” and whilst it’s considered bouldering… it’s maximum high balls with foot jumps in all the wrong places!! You’ve also never seen one person carry so many crash pads!!
Nina’s ‘falling’ abilities are impressive (and possibly more valuable than her climbing ones)!!

“United States of Joe’s” This film will touch home for anyone who has been climbing for sometime and watched new areas come into fruition (and I’m not talking about the climbing). The film gives a great behind the scenes view of what was taking place in this new bouldering area (yes, the climbing at Joe’s Valley is all bouldering). This movie really made me think about our small town climbing venues such as Montagu, Rocklands and Boven.
A really well done film capturing the feelings and emotions of both climbers and town folk.

“The Nose Speed Record,” You will love this movie. My favourite character is certainly Brad Gobright, followed by (fellow YOSAR dirtbag) Jim Reynolds. Brad just makes you laugh over and over.
Alex does something that even he never expects and Tommy adds more gear to climb which slows them down.
Speed is operative word in this film and you get to see what happens when ‘sketchy’ goes all wrong.

Screenings will take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town on the 1st of November at 6:30 for 7pm.
Tickets are available for R60 (members) and R70 (non-members) at CityROCK front desk.
