I'm highly interested in joining mountain search and rescue. I'm finding it difficult to gather info of any sort on it. Any info links tel. no. or E-mail addresses that could shed some light on this, would be appreciated. I can't think of any thing more amazing and rewarding than being a member of search and rescue. What prerequisites would I need, if any? Do I need to be a member of MCSA?

Any info would really be very appreciated.

Mountain Rescue is run through the MCSA in most of SA (except the Western Cape). There are rescue teams in the following sections of the MCSA: Joburg, Cape Town, Hottentots Holland, South Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. Some of the other sections had teams but they have disbanded due to a lack of personnel or rescues. Hi Frank,

the MCSA Search and Rescue team in Gauteng had its last training for the year last night [jugging in the rain ] and training will only start again on 19 Jan. Training is open to anyone, the basic requirements are to be active in the mountains (you need to be able to look after yourself before being able to assist others) and be able to commit time to training.
