Waterval Boven’s Town Manager, Godfrey Matlala asked me to send this email out to climbers. There have been a number of cases of theft and vandalism at Elandskrans which is standing empty at the moment as the municipality waits for new management to take over - the chalets have been ransacked and copper wiring is being stolen. While the police are patrolling, Godfrey urged anyone climbing in the area (Restaurant, Gaper, Flying is Fun and Coven) to be alert and cautious as there are criminal elements about.

We were there 2 days ago - the place is a dump. It's criminal how the municipality have left the place to rot. It should be sold otherwise it will never be managed properly - the place has amazing potential but nobody will make the capital investm£ent needed to fix it properly if the municipality remains the owner.
We parked there and luckily left the car unlocked which probably saved us a window. Were reliefed of all the CDs in the car :( the climbing was fantastic though. if you go climb there rather park in town.

The above comments are all true, and we are hopeful that Elandskrans does get sold soon, but to leave CDs in your car (open or locked) and expect them to be there when you return?! Not many places in the world where you can do that.

Jip, lesson learnt the hard way. Leaving the car unlocked was probably the right thing though; saved us the cost of a window and CDs.
Is the place up for sale? Asking price?

The reason no one will invest in the resort is because its within spitting distance of a crime ridden township. Imagine the capital outlay just for decent security. Ha ha if the police were actually patrolling then how is it possible the place is ransacked. I think its doomed to the suffer the ill fate of so many 'new south african' managed properties
