Hi all,

My experience of rock climbing is climbing boulders barefeet on hiking trails. I am a real nature child and would love to climb in a more safe and fun way. I got most of my answers from the previous beginner posts, however - have to start somewhere.
I am very keen to join a group of experienced climbers, to observe. No climbing gear or experience, but extremely passionate.

If there are any willing and able climbers out there who won't mind a tag-along please let me know.

What should i expect?

The Rock Rally is a fun competition held in Montagu, competitors spend the day climbing routes to gain points for their scorecards (there is also a fancy dress prize + a few other category prizes). In short there will be many climbers hanging about the crags of Montagu and would give you a good feel for the sport. You would not even need to tag along with anyone, just visit a few of the crags (the walk-in's are generally very short (I'd be happy to give you directions to some of the main areas).
That night there will be a prize giving, spit braai and party.

Assuming you would stay the night, best place to stay would be De Bos as the place is being used as the base to run the event.

Being in Strand I would recommend you join the local MCSA's (Mountain Club of South Africa) mailing list:

They have many rock climbing specific meets, and generally meet at Waterstone Shopping mall on Sunday Mornings.

Come to the Neelsie climbing wall in Stellenbosch. There are always people there in the afternoon. Or check out the Universities' BTK website. Great place to start and meet people.
