Could be a mid life crisis. Could be the sudden onset on singledom. Could be the years of watching and wanting to do what those insane people hanging off the side of a rock are doing.

Going to St Peters to have a look see and maybe do the beginners course with my kid - that would be a wise move?

Stop smoking? - probably never going to happen
Stop drinking? - most likely never ever going to happen
Stop swearing? - only if all the stupid people in the world disappear
Stop listening to Rammstein - don't even go there (running around theroom yelling DU HAUS....... DU HAUS)
Insane or psychologically disturbed - MOST likely

15 Kgs overweight and hugely unfit.
Hate the gym but enjoy hiking.

Views? Ideas? Yes? No? Tips? What? Where? How? When?

"OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER BUT YOUNG ENOUGH NOT TO CARE"

Ulli OPENS routes at the age of 71.

So no, not to old my a long shot.

All climbers swear,
Most climbers drink,
Some climbers smoke,
But Rammstein? You sound more like the Gè (rest his soul) type......

I must point out that it is in fact "Du hast". Climbers can be a very pedantic, finnicky, nit-picking bunch :alien: It's boulder season so you can head out to The Rocklands & hear all about it for yourself. You might even enjoy The RockStock they're having over there... :pirat:

Well then you gonna hate it that I call them Eisbein and I have no clue what they saying but love their fireworks.
And thats ok being nitpickity, finickerty - cause I am just your average laid back, relatively socialised psycho. Give me a quart of Heineken and I will forgive anyone their unfortunate personality traits.

Hey Emile, let her be man, it's her right to repeatedly address her house while she's in it. Maybe a little crazy, but still...

Funny Hann

ShingiLana, as long as you pick up your stompies and don't drink & climb, you'll be fine :thumleft:

Shorti - The ex trained me well - I am hysterical about littering and kokking up the environment - drives me crazy and I tend to chase after people and throw them down cliffs if they so much as spit the wrong way.

I remember Ge' - I think I dated him once - he makes a mean boerie roll.

Neil - Thanks for spending time with us last night - we are looking forward to starting - both of us - cept I may have to build myself an escalator soon to get up and down - but who cares - nothing ventured nothing gained hey!

I like talking to my house - my house holds all my invisible friends and you just jealous cause they don't talk to you.

Have gotten the stepper out and probably need to get those hand grip / hand strenghtening thingies.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE AN OLD LADY WITH AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM!

OLD???????????? WTF AM I SAYING!!!!!!!!!!!!

This could become an editorial of how to start climbing - the ins, outs, bads, goods, uglies.

May have to get my other cronies out to do something with their lives!

HEINEKIN RULES!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Shingi,
Have a #$%^*#$% Nike moment.
Just @#$%^&*$% do it!
and then crush the bottletop.

Starting the climbing thing can be hard work. Dont give up. Measure your performance against yourself, and not against others.
Neil is a very good choice to start out with: You are in good hands.

I wonder if Neil or the other trainers know what they are getting themselves into - cause if we love it and can manage through the first month then the "clan" will follow.

Can't wait - then of course will come the "what type of shoes" "what type of harness" "what type of equipment" stuff
All cost based naturally
Are all climbers as poor as I am?

"what type of shoes" => Make sure they are tight, but comfortable

"what type of harness" => Most of them will get you climbing, I prefer the ones that have "DoubleBack" buckles.

"what type of equipment" => Belay device, Screw Gate Carabiner, chalkbag & chalk

That should cover all your bases as a new climber for climbing in the gym or with experienced friends, the rest of the gear will come with time.

Oh and about the money, I think everyone slowly builds up gear because to jump in an buy everything will bankrupt you :-)
