I've been reading some old post (2005-2006) of the foundry at Boven. Read about people getting mugged and even an armed robbery that took place there, and wrong doers being arrested.

I would love to have a go at a few of the routes there. Can any one, perhaps a local, say if crime is still a problem at the area.

I would also like to know... is there any crags that still pose that type of risk in Boven :?:

Hi guys

That is indeed a very old post and there has been no incidents since then. The routes at Triple Tier Crags are spectacular and definitely
worth a visit. These crags are also coming into season now, nice and sunny climbing for winter days.

@Raymond : I wish I could give you a guarantee that you will never be a victim of crime while enjoying the outdoors but alas this is not possible. As far as incidents go, we haven't had any problems for a while now but drop by the shop before heading to the Sport Valley crags and get the beta on the day.

Keep cranking!

Jan

The guys who went to the Foundry on Saturday had an absolute blast!

There are so many gems in Sport valley, the Island, Restaurant, Waterfall & Triple Tier ... well done to the okes that (still) go there!!!

PS: I am writing this sitting in Jhb ... any areas here in the city that has been hit by crime in the last 5 years that I should avoid?

The E-Toll is pretty criminal if you ask me, so stay away from the highways unless you want to be fleeced!

Valid question.

I live in Joburg and wont take my girlfriend out at night for a jog. No problem during the day. Same with Boven.

Will go to the foundry with my male buddies but won't go there alone with her.

My answer is; depends on your company.

Yes I'm the paranoid type.

Happy to say that I took my wife to the foundry. Fooled around on some off route easy trad. Went home with no episodes or epics. Thanks Alex for rest assurance prior to our arrival.
