Does anyone know what is going on at Bronkies with the major 'double lane' road being built there to replace the dodgy old road? It looks like there is a major estate development on the way.

We were there on Saturday and the old road was being dug up by roadworks equipment making for interesting driving and the small path to the old house was impossible to get onto even in a 4x4, some of the guys arriving later were re-routed to a different access road (off the Delmas tar road) which ends up beyond the old house closer to the dam wall.

Will this development impact our access to the crag?

Hi, the info I am got from the owners is that the road works are being undertaken by Water Affairs (the road past the crag towards the dam wall, leads to the Water Affairs buildings located on the left of the dam wall when looking from the crag). I am still trying to find out how long it will take to complete and what the reason for the construction is because it seems to be more than just maintenance.

Its great that the road is being repaired by the DWA. It has deteriorated quite badly over the last 6 months or so. It was still drivable, but it could have gotten a lot worse.

Any news regarding parking and which roads to take?

Hi.

If approaching from the N12 Turn left on the gravel road +-500m earlier, (Department of water and forestry sign HAS BEEN MOVED TO NEW access gravel road), if approaching from PTA side it's right on the next road obviously.

Drive along until you reach the "t junction", turn right and then immediately left (+-50m)

Drive along until river and park there on the left somewhere. There are some stones leading u to the river on the right approaching the old house, some logs and trees span the river for crossing.

New non speaking bookman is there.

Andrew

It seems that the road works will be with us for a long time. According to the owners the Water Board says the road works will take 5 months / until Jan 2012 to complete. Still no idea why such a big road/effort is required.
