Hi , I will be in Johannesburg in October for a few days here and there. Wondering if any there is bouldering around the area close by? Even a local climbing gym will do if no rock. Grateful for any help or to tag along if a crew gets out.
thanks

Good day

there is not much bouldering on rock in the JHB area, the best would be to go the SA Climbing acadamy, Neil has a boulder gym there that is well maintained and equiped.

depending on where you are you can also try Wonder Wall the have a boulder cave there but its not that huge, more sport climbing venue

Sweet

Northcliff has some boulders. Nothing worth visiting Jo'burg specially for, but there are some fun rocks to play around on. Just be careful of rusty cans and broken glass (tragic that people have to litter). The rock feels solid, but is not very grippy. The view from up there is worth the trip if you will be in the area.

the wilds in joburg is a great bouldering spot. Its basically a natural training wall, full of eliminate problems. The area is pretty dodgy though, so go with a group and leave your valuables at home. There are a couple of strong joburg climbers climbing there pretty regularly at the moment, see if you can track them down. (PM if you need contact details)

Strubans 2 has some good bouldering. They have now bolted a bit of it but there are still some good problems there.(Not a huge spot though)

Have to try Wonderwall, you can get their details from the web. In and arround JHB its still safer to climb in a group. Wonderwall has some good bouldering and climbing and is a great place to hook up with local climbers before venturing out on your own.
