Closest sport climbing is Swinburne or Mt Everest near Harrismith as far as I know. Plenty of boulders in that area if you keen on some bouldering

There are definitely worse places to be "stuck" in!
If memory serves there are a host of boulders randomly scattered, but give Ollie or Dietmar a shout at http://www.clarensxtreme.co.za/ they are active in the area...

Just be aware of the rock quality - I don't know what its like on that side, but a few km south by RNNP area the rock is brittle in places.

I did some bouldering at the Cavern earlier this year. I took a nasty fall when a sandstone hold snapped. I have a writeup with pics on ClimbZA somewhere, but I can't find a link. My full writeup is at the following link if you are interested.

Some nice boulders close to the short hiking trails in Clarens

No bolting was allowed in the Golden Gate park due to the shale. It creates huge cavities that flake off massive blocks. Like Oubaas said, the bouldering in the area is great.
