Hi all,

there is an ARF meet planned at Kalk Bay crags next weekend. Turnout the last few meets has been rather pathetic so would be nice if we could get more than 7 people to turn up for a change :)
This is a nice crag and this should be the last time we visit it for ARF as we're planning to finish it up.
Please check out the Facebook page for details :thumleft:

Hope to see a few more of you there.

Cheers,
Cuan

It amazes me that people are so unwilling to help Little Red Hen to cut the wheat, but happy to eat her bread. Lets hope the sponsored athletes help, along with the strong climbers who have gained so much from these bolts.

Some maths and morals: Lets say there are 100 sport climbers in Cape Town who climb on rock more than 52 days a year- once a week. Lets say one should give 5% back to the community. That would mean that the average climber should be helping out about 2-3 days of the year, and for an event like the one above we should see 20 odd people helping out (there are about 10 events like this a year).

Clearly the stats change depending on usage rate, so on the 5% back rate above I would be expecting myself to give back 4-6 days of my year to climbing.

The great thing about climbing is that there are so many ways one can give back that might suit ones skills and time better: Gym regulars reluctant to go outdoors could help with National Lead competition happening in October.

Am I right in assuming it is the weekend of the 27th/28th, and not this weekend?

How often are they held and what happens at an ARF meeting? I am very interested in checking it out and helping. Unfortunately I'm in Pretoria next weekend, but at least to get an idea.

The last meet couldnt have been on a worst day. It clashed with 3 other events including the table mountain clean up and a WSAR training day. Lets hope that this time works out better.

There are enough people in the community to go around.
Besides...the last meet was nothing out of the norm in terms of krap turnout.

The meeting is the 28'th. They happen on no fixed schedule, but we try to give people at least a month's notice :)
No special skills required...you will be taught there. Just bring one standard sport rack...or just shoes n harness, no worries! :thumright

Thanks for the info, I've got a buddy who would also be interested so I'll relay.

In future I'll keep an eye out for some ARF meets!

Working on that...Not my event, and I see it is guests and friends only at the moment. Will get back with reply once it's sorted.
