I was just wondering, which is the generally accepted grade conversion table used by climbers in SA: the SACIN table dated around 2006 or the one shown in Andrew Pedley's Waterval Boven Guide, which was updated in February 2013? (I would imagine the latter...?) There seem to be some (very) small differences between the two - mostly at the lower end around SA 18 compared to the French grade.

A friend of mine from Czechoslovakia (they use the French grading system) is coming to visit me and wanted to have a look at some route guides and compare grades. Which table should I send him?

Thanks,

André

I generally use the one on wikipedia. It isnt always accurate but considering that grading across the country differs immensely, this is probably the best you are going to get,

wikipedia seems a bit out-of-whack on the higher grades. much of a muchness, but for my money:

Use the one in the Waterval Boven guide

What about this one? http://www.climbing.co.za/sa-climbing-b ... mparisons/
Interesting how big the difference is, eg Ozzy 16 could be anything between SA 16 and 19

In my experience of climbing in Oz and NZ, the grades felt pretty much exactly in line with SA grades, maybe +/- a grade at most.
