I was a-wondering – what length of slings do “most” people use for placing gear on trad climbs. I find that using the standard sport climbing quick draw causes my friends to crawl and passive protection like nuts to wiggle out of good placements with rope drag etc. I recently purchased 10 x 70cm sewn slings and, although this has cancelled out gear moving due to the extra slack, I look like some tribal rock pilgrim dressed in a grass skirt with these slings clipped to my harness! Not to mention the fun of climbing though vegetation!

A sign from the climbing gods would be appreciated.

Hey chalk how you doing...
I use 60cm slings (i got 7) and 120 as well (i got 4) that seems to do it for me. I hang them over my shoulder. The long ones first from left shoulder to right hip. I clip the two ends together with a biner. The 60's from right shoulder to left hip on top of the long ones. When I want a long sling I unclip the end and pull it out from under the short ones. I hope the ones you bought are the thinner 10mm dynema?
Hanging slings from your harness must make chimneys very interesting...

Well I use 60cm and 120cm, the same number as Fanta. hmmmm.
Also have a few LONG draws, find those pretty handy.
IMHO 80cm are pretty useless, except for chockstones etc...

If you want to hang quick draws with 60 or 70 cm slings from your harness, then you might find this a good idea:
