Helmets are probably the cheapest forms of insurance one can buy and their attributes vary. One of the major problems using them is heat and also weight. (Climbing through overhangs like Separate Reality with a half kilo helmet hanging on your tired and arthritic neck is not do-able). Trango now makes a pot where the cut is well above one's ears, it is light, cool and does not restrict vision. It's new and not on the net yet that I can find. I borrowed Robert's on the Nose but we bailed b4 it got hot so dunno how it shapes in the heat.

Next best the the light weight Petzl but I had to discard it while climbing in the heat in Yosemite. Check out

Can't find the weight but I think playing your I-Pod while belaying or climbing is probably more dangerous than not wearing a helmet.
