Hi all

As climbers it is our responsibility, for various reasons, to be conservation friendly. I am 100% for this. My question as a newby to the sport is, If I was to identify a new possible crag, or climbing area, that is quite thickly overgrown to access it, what is the best way to clear a path that has the least affect on nature.

Seriously though, sort out the access . Who owns the land? Have they given you permission? Do they know you intend to build paths, pull bushes out of cliffs, make a noise etc. etc.
Apart from that, path-building depends on the area. Cape fynbos is very different to karoo semi desert or transvaal escarpments.

So where is this new crag and will it be sport or trad? Pictures?

Seriously though, as above get permission from the land owner, etc and build a path that will prevent erosion.
