Hey just wanted to give everyone a heads up that 3 men tried to steal my car from the Strubens 1 parking lot. Luckily my after market immobiliser slowed them down enough for me and my climb partner to interrupt then before the job was done. I think its just to quiet to climb there during the week so from now on i guess its weekends only for strubens.

wow no ways man! when were u there? i have climbed there countless times during the week and always wondered what the chances of car theft were. I was there Wednesday this week till late like 6. A baboon could steel my car ;( sucks. Glad they never got it!

It was yesterday the 27th of September. Ya same usually we go in the afternoon until its dark and we always assumed that if you parked close to the road people could see it and it would be safe but obviously not.

Do you perhaps drive a sought after car? like a golf etc? ill be sure to be more watchfull from now on.
Could you see the guys at the car from the crag or what alerted you to disturb them?

Hi you can phone Jan the car guard if u got a big group. His fees will prob be a bit high as he has to cover his transport. His no is 076 454 0624. Otherwise park at the preschool down the road.

Ya I do drive a high risk car (a polo) so I had a after market immobilizer installed just after I bought it and I think that's what stopped them driving away. Thanks Neil that's a good idea if there is enough people but from now on I'm either going to park at the spar or the preschool. Ya we were climbing the street fighter section so I could clearly see the car but they were in a brand new red GTI so we just assumed that they were other climbers or someone parking in that area for whatever reason. I total understand that parking there on a week day without Jan was a risk so I was kind of tempting fate.
