I'm clearing out hundreds of tired old books which I will donate to CAFDA. Before I drop them off at CAFDA's second-hand book shop I thought I'd check to see if any fellow climbers would like any of the climbing-related books:

Mountain Paths by H.E.G. Tyndale
Minus Three by Gene Mason (first to summit McKinley, Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro)
Four Against Everest by W.W. Sayre (lightweight, good-style attempt on north side of Everest in 1962)
Escalades a Fontainebleu by Jean-Paul Lebaleur (1987 RD)
Doctor on Everest by P. Steele (the cock-up 1971 International Expedition)
North Wall by Roger Hubank (I can't read climbing fiction)
One Step in the Clouds compiled by Audrey Salkeld (ditto)
Tierra del Fuego by Rae Natalie Prosser Goodall

Also, if anyone is interested, I have an MSR stove that I bought in '79. It's had lots of expedition use but still puts out a fighter jet-like afterburner flame.

Anyway, if you would like any of this stuff you're welcome to it, but I ain't mailing nor delivering. Collect in Hout Bay, Cape Town.

regards,
Hilton Davies

Oh, so maybe I wasn't completely clear about this. Everything is free.

Hi Hilton,

I'd be very keen on the MCSA journals, as well as the MSR - have been looking for a 2nd hand one for a long time. Would be very grateful and am totally happy to collect.

I don't have a contact number for you though...will check on the forum...

Best,

sam

Hi Hilton,

That's really generous, I am interested in the following books:
Mountain Paths by H.E.G. Tyndale
Minus Three by Gene Mason (first to summit McKinley, Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro)
Escalades a Fontainebleu by Jean-Paul Lebaleur (1987 RD)
Tierra del Fuego by Rae Natalie Prosser Goodall

The Stove sounds good too.

I can come get whatever is still left sat or sun or whenever it suits you.

Thanks and let me know,

Mayra

Okay, so there was a flurry of Personal Messages and a couple of posts.

I ranked the requests (Personal Messages and posts) by time. The only exceptional item was Spike's first post which I disregarded as I was specifically offering this stuff to climbers and not the NSRI. Sorry Spike.

here's the outcome:

Coenraad gets the MSR
Rachel gets the Fontainebleu guidebook
Sam gets the MCSA journals
Hendrik get Tierra del Fuego, Mountain Paths, Minus Three and Four Against Everest
Mayra gets Doctor on Everest, North Wall and One Step in the Clouds

Please collect by next Friday. I'll send you guys a Personal Message with my details. Cheers, HD

Sorry Justin, most of us would much rather see the picture of Vanessa than read this dreary stuff...

Anyway, in case anyone might be interested, I have some more books for the taking:

Mountain Medicine and Physiology by Clarke, Ward and Williams
Arco by Loris Manzana (route book)
First on the Summits by Showell Styles (first ascents of 12 major peaks)
Adventure North by Abelard-Schuman (the story of Fridtjof Nansen)
International Mountain Rescue Handbook by Hamish MacInnes (I bumped into Hamish in Scotland in '96 - he was making a movie about Scottish mountain cows! Had tea together and talked about bovines)
The Craft of Climbing by Murray & Wright
Spitsbergen by Hugo Nunlist
Rondoy by David Wall
Mountaineering by Alan Blackshaw
Rock Climbing in Britain by JEB Wright (not very current, about 50 years old)
Routes on Table Mountain Part II, the Four Apostles by MCSA (excellent 1978 pocket route book)

Also have two small block-mounted b&w Ansel Adams photos of El Cap and Half Dome in winter, if anyone interested.

Spike, this time round?

Same terms as before.

Of the second batch only Mountain Medicine has gone (appropriately to Mark). Any takers for the rest?

Also available:
Climbing (the US magazine) issues 156 to 214 (Nov 1995 to Aug 2002). Seriously good magazine.
