very serious hazard, i have personally seen a few close calls of this nature in my old gym.

Ya a buddy of mine broke his ankle with this same thing. I was not there and did not know the belayer but i have seen it at a few crags. If you want to belay then watch your climber if you want to watch birds then go to teasers :P

We are making a joke of it but it is a real problem.

In 28 years of teaching kids to climb I have had one child injure himself and it happened just like this at CityROCK. He had a badly broken elbow.
