My girlfriend and I are flying into Cape Town from Colorado the first of November. We will be doing some climbing in the area. Do any of you have some recommendations on affordable lodging for a few days in Cape Town? Also the name of a good climbing shop where we can get topo's of the SA climbing routes. We will be prepared to camp as well. Thanks

There is no camping around Cape Town. I would recommend staying at a backpackers in Cape Town to keep costs down (anyone with a recommendation of which ones?).

Bear in mind that you ideally want a car in Cape Town (public transport will not get you to where you want to go... not easily anyway!)

Climbing Stores:
CityROCK
Camp and Climb
Mountain Mail Order

Guides: To begin with check out the Routes Wiki

Hi. We have a cottage in our garden with a climbing wall that we rent out to climbers for short stays. Not expensive. About midway between the sport climbing areas and Table Mountain. I can help out with climbing info if you need.

Drop me an email if you are interested.
cheers

FYI, the Ashanti lodge in Gardens offers camping.

I've stayed at 33 South backpackers in Observatory, CT before and really enjoyed it. It's a very nice spot and its located in an awesome part of town. Its also about a block away from CityRock climbing gym. Their number is 0214472423. For their website, just google it.

there are lots of backpackers in CT - just google it. long street has many backpackers but tends to be very noisy - if you're keen to party a lot then long street is the place to be. otherwise "cape town back packers" and the "backpack & africa travel centre" are good options. i'd prefer to stay in the city bowl area - easy access to public transport; shops; beaches; table mountain & lion's head.

I have a climber friend who is looking to rent out his house while he is back in Germany. Could be a perfect setup... perhaps you can even rent his car for cheap. Just an idea. PM if you need details.
