The cheapest place to sleep is at the Sentinel car park where you start your hike from.
There is a mountain hut with a few bunk beds, there is no electricity there but its the perfect place.

Alternatively you could sleep in Sentinel cave close to where you start ascending the gulley for Angus, this means carrying water though. I have slept on a gras patch at the base of the Sentinel before, made for an early start :thumleft:

Another vote for the bunk beds at Sentinel Car Park. Very basic but at R15 pppn, it's difficult to beat! :thumright

Those bunk beds, are they with the Witsieshoek resort or separate?

The bunk beds are separate to the resort and run by the guards who are stationed at the car park. Booking doesn't really work (I've booked in person there before, only to have no record of my booking when I arrive for the next visit). So just rock up and pay for a bunk. If it's full, you may have to camp in the car park but I haven't had that issue before.

i would say forget the car park and the bunk beds pack you camping stuff in a bag and hike to sentinel cave (20 min walk from approach gully). I climbed angus lappan last year august and we slept at base of approach gully just off the old contour path.

A night in a cave in the berg is way better than in a stinky hut.

One can do the route up and down in a day, just leave a little earlier. Hope you not gonna do the VF ?

I have slept in the car park under the stars and have had no hassle, the bunks are great if you feel kind the guards up there usually like a sack of potato's and some spice

ENJOY ! !

Hope you're gonna do the VF while you're there? Report back?

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

Planning on arriving early Fri (20 April) morning, climbing Angus on Sat and heading home Sun.
So Fri should be free, we will def go take a look! Don't have any VF equipment so not gonna use it. Might do the climb which clashes with it though... :jocolor:

In the end we may just end up hiking up Sentinel Fri and then climbing Angus on Sat.

We'll see how the weather treats us and how we feel... not too fit at the moment!
