I'm looking into doing a trip up to Uganda / DRC for some climbing on the Ruwenzoris.
Has anyone been up that way recently? Or can can you put me on a trail to start looking for some hands on info?

The Mountain Club of Uganda has a new website, and is undergoing a resurgence in climbing activities. They also have a Facebook page. Contact them for up to date info.

Has anyone on the forum climbed on the mountain before, who can recommend routes and / guides?

I was there Dec 2010, climbed with Rwenzoris Mountaineering Services (RMS) google them for all their details. Mail a guy called Jerome They have been the sole guiding company for many years although recently I hear another one has started up but they do not have access to the huts or route that RMS does.

From the Congo side thigs are a lot more haphazard, you find someone in the gateway town who will guide you up/knows the route. Not much structure. There is a write up in one of the old MSCA journals. Recently there was a French group that climbed from the DRC side they have a facebook page, again google it. Obviously this is all dependent on the situation in the Eastern Congo. I beleive Unesco helped restore the Huts on the DRC side around 2000 so they should be in alright condition.

If you want more info send me your mail address and I'll forward you a mail I sent to a couple of friends.

Cheers

Jon

We used RMS, as everyone certainly had to a few years back, and were very satisfied with the service.
