Shongweni - Magnetic Wall
What is the current status regarding safety and access to the Magnetic Wall?
Re: Shongweni - Magnetic Wall
Conservation Guardians, appointed by the Zwelibomvu Community Trust (which owns the land) in ~2017/2018, is no longer managing the reserve.
The trust and other organisations operating within the reserve are currently attempting to resolve the situation.
The reserve is reportedly operating "business-as-usual", but I'd suggest it's worth exercising some caution during the current management vacuum - poaching has been a constant issue and will likely surge, and the risk of being mugged is probably increased (muggings were an issue for climbers prior to Conservation Guardians taking over the venue).
Visitors frequenting the dam or Spirit of Adventure are probably ok, but I'd think climbers/hikers are more at risk as we operate in isolation and typically small groups.
The MCSA is monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation unfolds.
