Wellington's Dome

Post by LDerwort » Mon May 11, 2015 10:33 am

I wanna head up to Wellington's in June. Couple of questions to those in the know:
- Is June a good time?
- How's the camping facilities there, taking along small kids? Costs? Warm water?
- If not multipitching - can one safely tie-off/anchor at the first pitch for 'regular' sports climbing
- If indeed possible, how's the base (in general) for belaying (considering small children around)
- Are there still safety & security issues there?

Any feedback would be great please.

I'd recommend you simply join the MCSA meet happening in June.

I sent you a PM with some alternative accommodation if you feel like it. I don't know costs at Jaap's place.
June is perfect.
60 m rope will get you up & down most first pitches, but there are some that's longer so check the guide, there are chains.
The base is pretty good, but helmets advised for sitting around the base of the main dome.
No recent safety issues, going on the days the MCSA is there would be best.
