Always happy to see new routes being opened in SA. So nice job opening that new route Justin and Silas!
But I am sure The Steeple is an Archeological World Heritage Site. Ancient pondok dwellings were recently discovered there. So no bolts please. This could be the resurgence of big and bold trad climbing in SA. Or the birth of Montagu high-ball boulder problems? And access should be tightly controlled. I recommend that Pierre or the Montagu Mountain Reserve Committee (MMRC) are put in charge of issuing permits.

It is still a trad route, but I have intentions of bolting it (and maybe adding a 2nd pitch).

In all seriousness, if you want to bolt something in Montagu please send a mail to info@climbing.co.za with a photo and location of the route. This is the procedure for bolting in Montagu - as set out by the Montagu Mountain Reserve Committee (MMRC).

There are heritage sites in Montagu (luckily The Steeple is not one of them).

For those who do not know, Pierre (mentioned above) is the farmer who owns Bosch Kloof - I spoke to him last week and he is (still) not open to having climbers on his land (and yes he owns the entire kloof).
My pitch to him was to put in place an arrangement similar to that of The Chosspile

Pierre should not be confused with Colin who lives in the old Toll Huis at the bottom of the kloof.
