Planning a trip to Hogsback but can't seem to find any route into on the bolted lines at Madonna and Child Falls - the Wiki has the Hog RD which is great but no mention of the falls? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Kyle

We were in Hogsback end April and as far as I know there are no bolted routes on Madonna and Child. There is a bolted multi-pitch by Robertsons Fall though. Two pitches around 21/23 I think...

You need to drive on the road past Madonna and Child to the Dam and take the turning by the end of the dam to the right. Road is a bit uneven so if you have a small car, park here and walk. Follow this road for few hundred meters and where it curves left, head straight into the trees. You will see a sign with a climbing symbol. Heading left will take you to a small wooden viewing platform and the anchors for the route are below this. It is a bit hidden away, we had to search a bit to find it. I didn't climb it but my partner said it was awesome, the top pitch especially :thumright

The guys at Away with the Fairies can give you more info, and show you on a map if needed.

There are 3 routes which I bolted in that sector. You can see them from the M+C parking lot on the streaked wall opposite (not close to the falls themselves). From the left they are 21, 24, 19 (two pitches). They follow obvious lines. Take binocs with you if you're worried that you wont see the bolts. Take a bearing on obvious rap trees and rap in. It would be easier if you had a seperate rap rope. With the recent rains they might have wet patches on them.

The Robinson Falls route is not to be missed, either.

Will Madonna work herself to death or will she simply retire and get old like the rest of us? I Love Madonna but I am concerned that she is so afraid of getting old, that when her body can't handle it she would just collapse on us. Do you think she stays up and night hating the fact that she is getting old, can you imagine her as a grandmother sitting and doing nothing. How will Madonna be when she is to old to do what she does, worried fan.
