WITS UNIVERSITY MOUNTAIN CLUB (WUMC to its friends) is turning 50 years old this year.

Some of us old guard are having a celebratory bash. On the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October we are going to have the traditional Formal Dinner for the Alumni, the students and for any one who feels like celebrating 50 years of WUMC. The venue is Cedarburg campsite. The Saturday night will be the formal dinner and Sunday morning well have the traditional communal fruit salad. So gents make sure to pack your suite tie and ladies your most stunning evening gown (heels are optional). Also don’t for get to bring your fruit for the salad.

For those of you who can’t make it into the kloofs there will be a cheese and wine at the MCSA Johannesburg hall on the 30th of September. If any of you have some photos or memorabilia form your years at WUMC please let me or Uschi know before hand. We’d like to have a few pictures playing in the background and a memorabilia table to show what 50 years of WUMC climbing has done.

If you have any questions post them here or send me a PM or a mail to mightyorangeroot@gmail.com.

Hey all

This weekend 3rd and 4th October is the formal dinner for the Wits University mountain club 50 years anniversary.

The events are not restricted to ex Witsies, all are welcome!!!

For those of you who are not familiar with the traditions, this is how it works:

The event is held on Saturday night at the Cedarburg campsite. Parking is at Mountain Sanctuary Park. If your plan is just to come for the night and not the climb that day then get there before 6pm as they close the gates to the park for the night. Sign in at reception and tell them that you are there for the formal dinner. There are some small fees payable.

Saturday’s dinner is traditionally a stir fry. Please note we are not providing dinner just telling you what the tradition is. You are doing your own cooking so you can have what you want. In the past people have carried in tables and chairs and gas braais to make life comfortable. Please remember however, that what ever you carry in, you carry out.

The important bit is that you remember your formal wear. I will be sporting a classic three-piece grey suit with a slight bell to the pants - just to keep it real. Formal shoes however are optional as we are children of the earth.

Sunday morning the tradition is to all club in for a communal fruit salad. Please bring a fruit of your choice and donate it to the salad on Sunday morning. Once it is all cut up and mixed in, dip in your bowl and enjoy a good breakfast before heading off for a day of climbing and relaxing at Help-Help pool.

As a precursor to the weekend the MCSA has offered to host a Cheese and Wine for us. The evening will start at 8pm on Wednesday the 30th September. If you have any photos from your days in the Wits University Mountain Club, please e-mail them to me at mightyorangeroot@gmail.com or bring them on the night. Sadly only digital photo’s can be accommodated.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

Then the Formal Dinner in Cedarberg Kloof.

Just like climbing on TM , just you don't have to deal with the rampant South Easter.

There could be lightening though...

Hey All

Just a quick reminder this weekend is formal dinner. The permits have been organized. Mountain sanctuary has been informed that there is a meet. I have copies of the permit and will arrive later in the afternoon. Please tell the Mountain sanctuary reception that you are here for the MCSA WUMC meet.

See you all tomorrow.

Regards,
Greg

Thanks to all who turned up. It was a cool evening although there were no current WUMC undergrads in attendance... Not 1  !

Thanks GregB for sorting out all the logistics.
It was cool to have such a mixed bag in attendance.
Great to hear all the stories and 'facts' from Snort

:thumright Good Times :thumleft:

Indeed. It was really cool being out there. And fortunately no good stories were ruined by "facts"!
