First ascent Comfort lite or Ultralight?

Post by Luckystrike » Tue Aug 23, 2016 10:08 am

Need some advice please. Which one would be better for mountaineering? Here is the specs:

Comfort lite: 183cm x 57 cm x 3.8 cm = 810g
Utralight : 183cm x 57 cm x 2.5 cm = 623g

What is more important, weight or thickness of matress?

Any previous experiences would be appreciated.

Unfortunately they don't provide a "R" rating (measure of insulation effectiveness) so it's difficult to guess.

Thicker ones are usually more comfortable, thinner less so. For hiking take the lighter one.
Happy climbing

>600g is not ultralight in anyone's books.

check out the JR gear traverse core insulated mat for a decent option that is not too expensive.
For less that 600g you get a mat with an R rating of 5 and is a lot thicker than the FA ones ( I don't have one but hike/climb with people who do)
Seems like a solid option at the price.

Viking beat me to it: those JR Gear mattresses are brilliant! only little catch is they aren't self-inflating, so get the 20l dry bag pump as well.

I have the uninsulated version, and find it the most comfortable and smallest mattress I own. More comfy than most beds- but this might have more to do with the "where" than the "What" if you know what I mean...

Hi all. I posted a broader but similar thread recently. Can any one here provide a link and price and retailer for the JR mat. I'm tempted. Thanks. Peter
