Hay Nic

its me again.
I suggest cheap ropes like (escuise spalling) the beal edeling or the blue water standard ropes. they are good ropes but don't cost allot and you will climb allot at Uvongo with all that sand. When you get a rope also buy the nixwax rope proof and treat your rope, this will help a little. You are welcome to join me on week-ends until you get the rope.

As Nic says a cheaper rope to start with is a good idea, as you will learn very quickly what not to do with a rope e.g. rope drag, running over sharp edges, what sand does to your rope, etc.

A rope bag is also highly recommended and will prolong the life of your rope a lot, its also something you can use with your next couple of ropes and means you avoid having to coil your rope.
I recommend a 60 meter (length) / 10mm (diameter)

p.s. remember to uncoil your new rope nicely (i.e. read the instructions)
If you don't you'll know what I mean :thumright

I got a beal top gun rope which I am very happy with. I would recommend a beal top gun rope.

Remember MMO says they will beat any legitmate price.

City Rock normally has some nice beginner specials involving a rope + 10 draws, don't know if they ship though.

I like the "dry" treated ropes seems to me that it repels sand better and easier to knot and unknot (personal opinion).

For my first rope I got a Bluewater Eliminator 60m.
I was very happy with it. Then it got stolen.
When I buy a new rope I will probably get the same again.

The Beal Edlinger is the business.

It is an inexpensive rope that really does the job.

Hi
Im gettting myself my first rope this weekend, I found the bluewater Eliminator for a good price, the only thing im concerned of is it has a 3% sheath slippage.
The Beal Edlinger works out at a similar price but i will have to get it posted to me.
How important is it to take sheath slippage into consideration when choosing a rope?

That slippage is just a honest take on the tests done - better honest than not, I reccon.

I think I can say that practically there's no slippage on any of the hundreds of BlueWater ropes I've dealt with. Thats just my practical experience on the matter. There hasn't been ANY rope lately that had bad sheath slippage, to my knowledge anyway. Thats most of the makes we know of lately - sheath slipage seems to be a thing of the past. Seems like the further we go, the better the tech used. It seems like even the most basic gear nowadays compare and even surpasses the 'advanced' stuff we got 8 years ago.
Technology is amazing! You won't make a mistake buying any of them. :thumleft:

To me, the thing that makes me buy anything nowadays are the service and after-sales service available on a product. Thats the deal maker, for me anyways.

Thanks for the feedback, in that case will probably settle for one of the ropes from the local store regardless of the slippage. Will decide when im there but its between a bluewater and Roca rope. :thumright
