Does anyone here actually use Petzl ANGE Finesse L quickdraws for sport climbing? Are they suitable and comfortable for sport climbing or are they mainly for trad?

I have a few and use them quiet often for sport. They take a little time to get used to but then become very easy to use.

I do find though they work better for trad.

I've only ever used mine for trad (but that is because I have a set of sport quickdraws), but I cannot see any reason not to use them for sport, that snag free nose is great and they are so light compared to most solid gate quickdraws.

Haha, I'm going with burg on this one.

Most definitely the most affordable ones... however, my finger almost always gets caught in the wild country draws... i've never figured out why... so i stay away from them. Unless of course they are a lot cheaper

Petzl Spirit, hands down, no argument.

Agree totally with Proze. Petzl Spirit FTW. The Ange L are supposed to be better. What's not to like?

I will seccond that, Petzl Spirit Express for the win!

BD Freewire - good balance between cost and quality. I have them and they have been great

I love my LiveWires! Nice thick sling (to grab ), nice and large openings and easy action with no lip on the top 'biner. Next best option is a Hoodwire - have to give to okes from BD some mileage for innovative design.

Just something I have notices about the hood wires is that the little rubber that holds the rope side biner seems to break very easy and the biner moves around in the sling a lot.

This is not a big problem just very annoying

The only thing i dont like about the petzl Ange s is the fact that the opening is so small:l no space for thumb and rope:l

thanks everyone! the reason I posted here was because I couldn't really find any comparative reviews on the large ANGE vs BD.
I won't consider the small ones, and maybe want to make up my own large ones with a fat dogbone and 2 ANGE L carabiners... or a fat dogbone and 2 BD hoodwires... decisions decisions.

I had an Ange S, gave it away after the first use. Gate was just too small. Would make a nice key ring though....

Some feedback:
I got some Petzl ANGE L Finesse draws in the end (for my birthday) and I must say they are AWESOME!
So after all the deliberation they were the winners, the gate has a great feel and I love the snag-free nose. They are VERY light which makes them great for trad, and I love gear that can multi-task. Of course the fact that they are beautiful doesn't hurt either :-)
Takes a few clips to get used to the new shape, but definitely worth it!

The DMM Shield is still the best wiregate biner around NO QUESTION!

OK maybe its pricey but this biner & the Revolver are absolutely tops - if you have used them you will know why. Ok in sport you may get away with old fashioned hook nosed biners but even then its irritating.

The hoodwires are a cheap alternative & I am sure that the single wire Petzl's are safe but they rely on a spring to make them work, lacking the simplicity of the DMM's so even though I can read the bias, I still think one must consider the DMM's as they lead the field.

Then their is their new biners the Alpha Light & Trad....
