Does anyone know where in SA you can buy ladder style aiders?

Specifically, like these ones from Metolius...

I've checked Mammoth Outdoor, Drifters, MountainMailOrder and RammMountain.

Anyone have some second hand ones they would like to sell maybe?

Singing Rock: Footer, Jacob.

However none of these are that specific design, although the Jacob is close. I must confess I can't think of anyone who does them. suppose if it comes to it you could have them made: I know a Granny with a sewing machine...

Why do you want this specific model?

My brief experience has been that you typically step twice or three times per piece, sequentially higher.
This model look like it will squeeze the upper rungs smaller, so make it dificult to put your right foot in before unweighting your left.

We used the alpine aiders in Yosemite - not being experts and not having tried out all the variations - they seemed to work well.

Why these? I find them slightly easier to step in (compared to etrier style aiders) initially, because the steps aren't offset. In other words, you can step left foot into first step or right foot first and it makes no sakes. The etrier ones, if the first step is on the left, you either have to step with your left foot first or flip the aider around. Also, they are generally regarded as easier to learn to aid with, although slightly heavier than etriers.

Ant, well spotted on the pinching issue. Yates and Fish does them with a spreader bar, basically a piece of PVC pipe fitted over the top step, to prevent exactly that pinching of the top steps. People also add their own spreader bars to the Metolius ones.
