Hi All

For the first time in a very long time, the Western Cape will be hosting a National Climbing Event this year: The SANCF-sanctioned National Boulder League.

This event will see the top boulderers from all provinces tackling some superb problems at City Rock over the last weekend of March (details to follow).

We would like to know how many Western Cape climbers and their friends and families would like to be involved?

Currently, we are looking for the following people:
  • Judges
    Routesetters
    Isolation Stewards
    Scorers
If anyone would like to assist us with one of the above, please can you contact delaney@rockchicks.co.za and we will send you more details on what is involved.

Furthermore, as we will be hosting climbers from all over the country, we would like to know how many of us would be able to accommodate them to help them with travelling and accommodation costs.

If anyone has a room or a bed for a climber or two, please can you email delaney@rockchicks.co.za.

We are super excited to be hosting such a grand event and hope that you will support us in making it run as smoothly and perfectly as possible.

Thank you all and kind regards
Western Cape Climbing
Julia Chen (President)
Warren Gans (Vice President)
Delaney Carpenter (Secretary)

Hello Delaney,
kudo's to everyone invloved in making this event happen, I only have one issue though - timing. The last weekend of March is the Easter weekend and everyone and their dog will be in CT so accomodation and costs will be at a premium, especially those who need to travel. Airfares are going to escalate exponentially closer to the time and we cannot book if we do not think we will make the finals. Chicken and egg situation???
I would love to attend but will not be able to justify the potential inflated cost of accomodation, airfares, carhire, eating, etc. and would prefer a normal weekend for this event.
It is too late for this year but maybe a mutaul concensus amoungst the competitors should determine the timing for next year.

Cheers, Nigel

Hi Nigel

We have booked out the campsite for the Easter Bouldering Festival, so you will definitely get camping accom there, and then if you in the final you can easily drive in to Cape Town for the day as the secret venue is about 45 min closer to Cape Town than Rocklands. Also the adult NBL final is on Monday, where as the Easter Bouldering Festival’s events are on the Saturday and Sunday. Delaney has arranged it this way so that everybody can travel to the same province and the events do not clash for the adults.
However you must let me know if you want to book camping at the new secret venue as we need an estimate of numbers for the owners.

Hi Nigel

The NBL has always been held over Easter Weekend because it falls within school holidays, which is why we were unable to change the dates.

The Gauteng crowd are looking at hiring a bus to travel down in as it will be cheaper. We are also asking our climbing community to assist with accommodation for incomers by way of a spare bed, bunk, mattres, couch, etc.

I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks so much
Delaney

Hi guys

We're still looking for 2 scorers and an isolation steward.

Please can anyone who also has room for a climber or two in their house/flat, let me know?

Thanks so much
Delaney
