Hi All,

The Ledges guidebook suggests abseiling at the end of pitch 3 of India Rubber (on the Right side of Venster Buttress). Is there a fixed ab station with bolts? ... or what?

The walk-off around the back of India Rubber is also a good option. Its actually really easy and quick.

Its been awhile since I've done India Rubber, but from what I can remember, yes... But then again we had Errol Flint with us and he is a walking guide book! I don't think is was a path as such, but just a rather obvious downward scramble round the back of the buttress - very easy and we were done so quickly.

Use the new path up to Venster Buttress http://climb.co.za/news_detail.asp?newsid=912 when you walkin as India Rubber is more-or-less as you round the corner of the buttress. The walk-off connects to this path again and gets you back to base... You will find one of those cool little plaques indicating the start of India Rubber.

Also, we did a fun variation on the 1st pitch that you should try - makes the 1st pitch a bit more fun! Here is a photograph of the variation (sorry, its not the greatest photograph, but will help identify the line):

Forget the abseil! Climb to the top, in good old-fashioned style, and then walk down the India Venster path back to the new path which leads to the start.

Thanks for your advice. I hope to climb it soon with a friend that is also a beginner trad leader (like myself) - so getting as much route, approach and descent info (I specially worry about descents) about each new climb ...well ... uh ... helps settle the nerves! - thanks!

Yep its me Happy New Year to you too!!

Oh and what I forgot to mention is that we did 4 pitches in total. So yeah, climb to the top... and as Richard says, you eventually get back onto the India Venster path - although as I said we did a bit of a scramble down.

As you can see the last pitch has a nice little airy start but its easy!
