Hello,

I'll be in Durban from most of May - early Aug 2006. I'm a US student doing an internship for 10 weeks and also happen to enjoy climbing/hiking/outdoors activity. Would like to get in touch with the climbing crowd in the area for any info about climbing and just getting introduced to the area.

I'd be especially obliged if you could give me info on a place to climb during the week (gyms, etc.) and of course any potential ways I could get to local crags on the weekends. The websites are great but I'm looking for some human insight too!

Most people in Durban seem to climb at the University of KZN climbing wall...

I've tried accessing the University website but with no luck. Is it locked down? If anyone climbs there and would welcome an out of towner, please let me know.

Hi there,

I would suggest contacting the Kwazulu Natal section of the Mountain Club of South Africa ( http://kzn.mcsa.org.za/ ) There is some awsome climbs in the area,depending on your grade and preferences. They are a very dynamic and friendly bunch and should sort you out in no time.
